The Hidden Gift of Going Through Hard Things
I don't know about you, but where I live- Spring has finally arrived.
As I was driving my kids home from art class today I couldn't help but notice all of the tress in bloom and everything turning so rich and green.
There's something about spring that feels almost magical. The way the sun lingers a little longer, the way the world seems to breathe again after holding its breath for too long.
Have you ever noticed how the beauty of spring feels even deeper, even richer, when you've been through a really hard winter?
Not just the weather kind—the life kind.
Was your winter similar to mine? We experienced loss, pain, disappointment, challenging circumstances and some big life changes. Or maybe you just noticed that aching feeling that things aren't quite how you hoped they'd be? It's ok if you spent months just putting one foot in front of the other, getting through one day and a time.
It's in those seasons that our roots grow down deep, even when everything on the surface looks still.
And then—one day—you notice it.
The warmth.
The light.
The small, stubborn signs of life.
Maybe it's a moment of laughter that feels easy again.
Maybe it's a conversation that leaves you feeling seen instead of small.
Maybe it's just the way you notice the daffodils nodding in the breeze and think, Maybe I'm coming back to life too.
The truth is, hard seasons don't just test us—they prepare us. They soften us. They make us notice the tiny, miraculous things that are so easy to overlook when life is easy and smooth.
I know my hard season showed me places where I held judgements that needed to be removed and helped me connect to compassion for myself as well as others.
Spring feels sweeter because we know what it's like to be without it.
The hard seasons teach us resilience.
They teach us to cherish the good without gripping it too tightly.
They remind us that no matter how deep the cold, life finds a way to bloom again.
So if you're stepping into a new season—whether you feel fully ready or still a little tender—I just want to remind you:
You are allowed to carry both the memory of the winter and the hope of spring.
You are allowed to celebrate even the smallest new beginning.
You are allowed to feel joy, even if your heart is still healing.
Spring is here, friend.
And you made it through.
Breathe it in.
Let it fill you up.
Let yourself bloom, exactly as you are.
